Black History Month

Here’s a story about an outstanding African — American who risked his life to save others. I would like to take a moment to reflect on the heroic actions of Waverly B. Woodson from Philadelphia, PA, was a black army medic who saved 200 lives on D — Day in Normandy. Woodson was a Pre — Med student at Lincoln University, prior trying into a still — segregated — Army in 1942. At first, he wanted to go to Officer Candidate School, but was turned down due to his race so he trained as a combat medic. His landing craft hit a mine which caused him to be injured himself, but he spent the next 30 hours carried out procedures like setting limbs, removing bullets, and amputated a foot. After spending three days on a hospital ship, he requested to go back to the front line. Lawmakers upgraded Woodson’s Bronze Star to a Medal of Honor which would correct a historical wrong. He truly deserve the medal of honor; no matter what color of his skin.
