I know everyone has probably watch Netflix’s Documentary Camp Crip, it was about a group of teenagers with disabilities who formed a civil rights movement for disabled individuals, the government would make public buildings handicapped accessible. This camp was staffed with hippies, they probably smoked pot with the campers. In the 1970’s, government buildings did not have ramps for wheelchair users. Some individuals were institutionalized in facilities where they sit in their fetus for days due to lack of care. Schools usually have special education in the basement away from the normal children upstairs. To be honest with you I never heard anything about this civil rights movement until I watched Camp Crip on Netflix. Why haven’t I learn about this in a history class. These people has made a path for me and every individuals with a disability. I would recommend this documentary to anyone who is passionate about disability rights.
