Starting my First Semester at the University of Tennessee!
When I started taking courses at the University of Tennessee, I wasn’t sure about what I wanted to study. I decided to take a fundamental graphic design course because I was interested about learning more about graphic designing. I always wanted to be a graphic designer or design a layout of a newspaper. The instructor of graphic design course would always talked about a professor named Dr. Hirst which taught a course called Technical Editing. She said the course would go over how to design a newsletter to website content.
I decided on taking technical editing because I thought it would be a interesting course to have under my belt. On the first of class I zoomed into Dr. Hirst’s classroom and introduced myself and said I was a freshman. Dr. Hirst said this is a senior level class and you are going to have a difficult time in this class. I told Dr. Hirst that I still want to take this course and i was determined to complete the course. I learned the fundamentals of technical writing and Dr. Hirst gave the whole a quiz class to see where our grammar skills were. Dr. Hirst have seen I didn’t well on quiz so he offered me a tutor. I learned the concept of brevity and it showed me a way to communicate quicker with fewer words. I even wrote a research paper about how this writing style can disabled people communicate quicker using fewer words. Dr. Hirst presented the research paper at International Communication Conference in Ireland.
